|A very common dragonfly in Devon and Cornwall, it can be
found almost anyway where there is still or slow moving water. It can be
found some distance from water especially along sunny paths and clearings
in woodland. Males have red bodies with a black marking on the midline of
the two penultimate segments and black and yellow striped legs. Females
have yellow abdomens but are otherwise similar to the males. Males patrol
their territories aggressively and will often return to the same spots often
sunning themselves on stones.
