Devonport has been providing support to the Royal Navy since 1691 and is now the largest naval base in western Europe, covering more than 650 acres and four miles of waterfront. One of Plymouth's favourite events is Navy days, an event which happens every other year; when the Royal Navy opens its doors to the public. In 2006, around 17 Royal Navy ships and two nuclear powered submarines opened their gangways to the crowds. Also visiting the show was the German frigate FGS Hessen, the French support ship FS Cormoran, the Dutch Ship HNLMS De Zeven Provincien and the Russian Udaloy class destroyer RFN Admiral Chabanenko. Here are some photographs from the event, mostly of the air exhibition.
